To combat the worsening air in India's capital New Delhi, several farmers in the neighbouring Punjab are packing off crop stubble to factories for recycling instead of torching it.Stubble burning every winter is a major contributor to New Delhi being one of the world's most polluted cities, with the smoke combining with vehicle exhaust and dust and remaining trapped in the atmosphere because of slow wind speeds in lower temperatures.However, farmers in over 800 villages across Punjab are now adapting to the use of balers to stack the stubble, and send it to factories where it is turned into biogas, bio-fertiliser, and cardboard, among other commodities, according to the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) group.Punjab has around 12,000 villages and stubble burning is also common in othe
The telecom department has said that all manufacturers, brand owners, importers and sellers of mobile phones must comply with the legal requirements for international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) registration.The advisory, issued on Monday, comes in the backdrop of increasing cases of online fraud and spoofing through tampered IMEI numbers.The government maintains a central database of tampered or blacklisted IMEIs and has advised that entities involved in buying or selling used mobile devices must check the database before completing the transactions and pay a fee for IMEI verification.The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) cited provisions in the Telecom Act, 2023 and the Telecom Cybersecurity Amendment Rules, 2024 to mandate manufacturers to register the IMEI number of every dev
