Revered in the Mahābhārata and glorified in the Śiva Purāṇa and Skanda Purāṇa as Devasenāpati—the Supreme Commander of the Divine Forces—Bhagavān Murugan symbolises the eternal triumph of Wisdom over Ignorance, Dharma over Adharma, Light over Darkness, and Self-Mastery over the limitations of the ( anger ) ego. Beloved in Tamil civilisation as Murugan, and worshipped throughout Bharat and across the world under His many sacred names—Kumāra, Kārttikeya, Skanda, Subrahmaṇya, Saravanabhava, Ṣaṇmukha, and Guha—He transcends every geographical, linguistic, cultural, and historical boundary.
The cherished honorific "Tamil God" reflects the profound devotion, sacred literature, philosophy, music, temple traditions, and living spiritual heritage through which Tamil civilisation has lovingly preserved, enriched, and celebrated His worship for millennia. At the same time, it affirms His universal spiritual significance as a revered Deity of Sanātana Dharma, whose Divine Grace, Wisdom, and Compassion inspire devotees across Bharat and throughout the world.
