Market Wrap: Sensex and Nifty end flat as profit-taking caps D-St rally near record highs

Indian stocks ended flat with a negative bias on Friday, with the Sensex and the Nifty swinging between red and green as investors locked in gains near record territory and weighed expectations of potential interest-rate cuts in both the U.S. and India alongside incoming domestic growth signals.The S&P BSE Sensex edged down 13.7 points, or 0.02%, to settle at 85,706.67, while the NSE Nifty 50 slipped 12.6 points, or 0.05%, to 26,202.95. Both benchmarks hovered in a narrow range through the day after scaling fresh record highs in the previous session.

India eyes price-making role in gold mkt

India is poised to transition from a price-taker to a price-maker in the global gold market, with domestic mining expected to meet approximately 20 per cent of the country's demand over the next decade, industry leaders said on Friday. Speaking at a gems and jewellery conference organised by the Chamber of Commerce of India (CCI), Sachin Jain, Regional CEO for India at the World Gold Council, said mining would be a critical component as the country moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047. "Over the next decade about 20 per cent of the demand of gold will be furnished by our own gold mined in India. There will be a sense about Indian gold, employment, and foreign investment coming to the mining sector," Jain said. India a 'major power': Asia Power Index

India has reached "major power" status on the Asia Power Index-2025 on the back of economic growth and military capability based on its performance in Operation Sindoor, Australia-based think tank Lowy Institute said on Friday.However, there are still gaps between India's ambition and the reality of continued limits on its influence, particularly relative to China, it said.The annual Asia Power Index measures resources and influence to rank the relative power of states in Asia.India was ranked among middle powers in the Asia Power Index-2024 with a comprehensive power score of 38.1, which increased marginally to 40 points to reach the threshold of a "major power".India is ranked third on the index after the US (80.5 points) and China (73.7 points).
