Global Chess League eyes big moves

Mumbai: After two seasons of testing the franchise model, the Global Chess League (GCL), a brainchild of Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, is preparing to expand.The league is betting on rising fan engagement, growing interest among women players and sponsors, and a format it believes is ready to scale. "In fact, we are looking to expand the league to two more franchises next year," said Peeyush Dubey, chairperson of GCL. "The league has grown, fan interest is high and now is the right time for us to expand."Interest in new teams is coming from outside India as well, including Central Europe, Scandinavia and the US, Dubey said. Gold surges ₹4,000 to record ₹137,600

New Delhi: Gold prices surged by Rs 4,000 to touch an all-time high of Rs 1,37,600 per 10 grams in the national capital on Monday, tracking firm global cues, according to the All India Sarafa Association.The precious metal of 99.9 per cent purity had closed at Rs 1,33,600 per 10 grams on Friday."Gold prices scaled even higher as international spot gold surged towards the USD 4,350 zone, triggering a strong rally in the domestic market," Jateen Trivedi, VP Research Analyst, Commodity and Currency, LKP Securities, said.He added that the yellow metal reflected the global strength with a sharp gain, touching a fresh lifetime high.Gold prices had earlier appreciated by Rs 3,200 to touch an all-time high of Rs 1,34,800 per 10 grams on October 17."The move was driven by renewed safe-haven demand

India's wholesale prices fall 0.32% in Nov

Tata Capital anchors Rs 2,300-cr Jayaswal Neco

Mumbai: Tata Capital has led a ₹2,300-crore refinancing of Jayaswal Neco Industries' debt, providing an exit to Edelweiss Alternatives last week, according to people familiar with the transaction.The refinancing was anchored by Tata Capital with a commitment of about ₹800 crore, alongside Investec at ₹300 crore. Other lenders and investors in the syndicate include Vivriti Capital (₹200 crore), Hero FinCorp, Hero Corp, DSP, Oxyzo and a clutch of family offices, taking the total deal size to around ₹2,300 crore.Hero FinCorp is understood to have invested around ₹300 crore, while DSP has committed about ₹175 crore. Vi may get big breather on Rs 83,000 cr dues

New Delhi: The government is likely to offer an interest-free moratorium of four to five years to Vodafone Idea (Vi) on over ₹83,000-crore of its pending statutory dues linked to adjusted gross revenue (AGR), giving immediate relief to the cash-strapped telecom operator.After the moratorium ends, the company will be required to pay arrears in six instalments, but the amount is likely to be reduced substantially, to nearly half, after a reassessment of liabilities, people aware of details told ET."A committee will be formed, headed by a secretary-level official, either serving or retired, which will hear the views of both, the telecom department and Vi," said one of the people on condition of anonymity, as the details have not been announced.Awaiting Cabinet NodIt will then “take a call
