The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Insurance Amendment Bill, paving the way for allowing up to 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) in insurance companies, a move the government says will deepen capital flows and strengthen the sector.The legislation, cleared earlier by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week, removes the existing cap on foreign ownership and introduces a set of structural reforms aimed at improving governance, boosting competition and expanding insurance penetration.According to a Lok Sabha bulletin, the Insurance Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025 is designed to accelerate growth and development in the insurance sector while also improving the ease of doing business.
