Global borrowing in euros rises nearly 20% in 2025 to record high, Dealogic data shows

Global borrowers have issued a record amount of debt ‍in euros in 2025, nearly a fifth more than last year, according to data from ⁠Dealogic, reflecting a growing trend among investors to seek alternatives to the U.S. dollar. Issuers have raised over $2.2 trillion in euro-denominated debt so far this year, figures from Dealogic showed, marking an increase of ‌over 19% ‌from 2024. The increase marks the third straight year of rising euro supply, although the pace has slowed slightly ‌from the near 21% rise in 2024. The surge in euro issuance volume could reflect a willingness among investors to diversify from the U.S. dollar , which has dropped over 9% this year against a basket of currencies, but is also a product of lower interest rates, particularly for emerging market issuers.

IndiGo to compensate flyers after govt probe

IndiGo will start compensating passengers affected by large-scale flight disruptions earlier this month from December 26, following a directive issued by the civil aviation ministry, sources told ToI.The government on Friday instructed the airline to immediately initiate the compensation process for travellers impacted during December 3, 4 and 5, when thousands of flights were cancelled or delayed. Following the directive, IndiGo will issue travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 each to “severely impacted customers who were stranded at airports for many hours” on those days, apart from additional compensation of ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 in line with government norms, sources said.The directive was issued by civil aviation secretary Samir Sinha during a review meeting.
