US President Donald Trump's tariffs on India appear to be tactical aggression in a power game characterised by various pulls and pressures. After announcing in a social media post a 25% tariff on all goods imported from India, along with an unspecified penalty for India buying Russian oil and weapons, from August 1 after India and the US failed to reach an interim trade deal, Trump sharpened his rhetoric in another Truth Social post: "I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India — their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world.
