MUMBAI: Equities are set to weaken on Thursday in reaction to Trump's tariff announcement. The GIFT Nifty futures were down 129 points, or 0.52%, at 24,725 at the time of going to print."Markets will react negatively," said Nilesh Shah, MD Kotak Mahindra AMC. "Despite the unpredictable policy making of US, the market was expecting a tariff deal to work out as long-term US-India strategic interests are aligned. India's April-June fiscal deficit at 17.9%

India's fiscal deficit for April-June was Rs 2,80,000 crore ($31.96 billion) or 17.9% of the estimate for the financial year ending March 31, government data showed on Thursday.Total receipts stood at Rs 94.14 lakh crore i.e. 26.9% of this fiscal year's budget target.Revenue receipts stood at Rs 9.13 lakh crore, of which tax revenue was Rs 5.40 lakh crore and non-tax revenue was Rs 3.73 lakh crore. Tax and non-tax revenues were 19% and 64% of the budgeted estimate.Non-tax revenue jumped as the Reserve Bank of India approved a dividend of Rs 2.69 lakh crore to the central government, up from Rs 2.11 lakh crore transferred last year. This will help the central government reduce its fiscal deficit.Revenue expenditure stood at Rs 9.47 lakh crore by the end of June.While announcing the federal

Rupee may hit record lows following US tariff shock

Mumbai: The Indian rupee, which breached the crucial 87 to a dollar mark on Wednesday to slump to its lowest this fiscal, is likely headed for a historic trough after Washington imposed 25% import tariffs on New Delhi.Bank treasury dealers believe the rupee could test all-time lows of 87.95 after US President Donald Trump, at the end of trading hours in Mumbai, confirmed that India will be facing a 25% tariff on its exports in the light of no trade deal finalisation between the two countries. Following this announcement, the rupee was quoting 30 paise weaker in the offshore non-deliverable forward market (NDF), which gives direction to the local spot market. The rupee was quoted below 87.90 to a dollar, indicating weaker opening at the local spot market on Thursday, dealers said."There may
