APSEZ to invest Rs 30K cr in Vizhinjam port

Thiruvananthapuram: Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) which manages the Vizhinjam port, on Saturday said the company will be investing a cumulative Rs 30,000 crore in the development of the seaport. Along with the additional investment of Rs 16,000 crore under phase 2 and a cumulative commitment of Rs 30,000 crore, the port's capacity will be increased from 1 million Twenty lakh equivalent units (TEUs) to 5.7 million TEUs by 2029, he noted. "This is the largest investment committed by any business house in the state of Kerala. Vizhinjam will emerge as the largest transshipment port in the Indian subcontinent and a globally competitive maritime hub," he said while speaking at the inauguration of the second phase. Asian Winter Games in Saudi Arabia delayed

Riyadh: The Asian Winter Games, due to be held in Saudi Arabia in 2029, have been postponed, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee said in a joint statement on Saturday. "The Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and the (OCA) have agreed on an updated framework for future hosting of the Asian Winter Games, confirming the postponement of the 2029 edition to a later date to be announced in due course," the bodies said.

Trump threatens Canada with 100% tariff

WASHINGTON, - US ‍President Donald Trump ​on Saturday said he ⁠would impose a 100% tariff on all Canadian imports if the ‌North American ‌country makes a trade deal with ‌China."If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a 'Drop Off Port' ​for China to ​send goods and products ‌into ‍the United States, he ‍is sorely mistaken," Trump wrote ‌on Truth Social. "China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general ‍way of life.
