A 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the US state of Alaska on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami warning that was later withdrawn, the US Geological Survey said.The earthquake took place at approximately 12:37 local time (2037 GMT), with its epicenter located about 54 miles (87 kilometers) south of the island town of Sand Point, USGS said. The epicenter had a relatively shallow depth of 12.5 miles.Authorities initially issued a tsunami warning for South Alaska and the Alaska peninsula after the quake, but later downgraded it to a tsunami advisory, and then withdrew it entirely."The Tsunami Advisory is canceled for the coastal areas of South Alaska and the Alaska Peninsula," said the National Tsunami Warning Center (NTWC) in a message issued about two hours after the earthquake.
Axis Bank’s net profit fell 4% year-on-year to Rs 5,806 crore in the April–June quarter (Q1FY26), despite a strong performance in its core business. The drop was mainly due to what the bank called a “Technical Impact” -- a one-time hit related to how it classifies some loans as bad.While the bank’s operating profit grew 14% YoY to Rs 11,515 crore and net interest income (NII) rose 1% to Rs 13,560 crore, provisions shot up to Rs 3,948 crore, of which Rs 821 crore were because of the technical impact.This technical issue came after the bank recognized some cash credit, overdraft, and settled loan accounts as non-performing assets (NPAs), which led to higher slippages and provisions.“The prudent application of technical parameters for recognizing slippages and consequent upgrades
Tata Group-owned Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) on Thursday reported a 26.56 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 329.32 crore in the first quarter of FY26. The country's biggest hospitality player posted a net profit of Rs 260.19 crore in the corresponding period of the previous financial year. Its total income from operations stood at Rs 2,102.17 crore during the April-June quarter, against Rs 1,596.27 crore in the year-ago period. The company's total expenses also increased to Rs 1,662.35 crore, from Rs 1,267.78 crore a year ago, a regulatory filing showed.
India's state-run Oil and Natural Gas Corporation is exploring building a 200,000-240,000 barrels per day refinery at Jamnagar in the western Indian state of Gujarat, a company source said on Thursday. The company is doing a pre-feasibility study for the project, the source told reporters. The source declined to be identified as the matter is not yet public. India, the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer, wants to position itself as a global refining hub and is expanding capacity.
