The Indian Rupee hit a record low of 91.07 against the US dollar on Wednesday, pressured by portfolio outflows and stalled trade talks. The Reserve Bank of India intervened to support the currency, which rebounded to around 90.25. This marks the fourth consecutive session of record lows, with the rupee down nearly 1% in five sessions and about 6% year-to-date.

Stock market today: The NSE Nifty, consisting of 50 shares, fell by 41.55 points or 0.16 per cent, reaching a week's low of 25,818.55. The BSE Sensex, comprising 30 shares, decreased by 120.21 points or 0.14 per cent, settling at 84,559.65. During trading, it fell by 263.88 points or 0.31 per cent to 84,415.98.
Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that global trade is increasingly being weaponized through tariffs and other measures. She warned India must negotiate carefully in this evolving landscape, where trade is no longer free and fair. Sitharaman emphasised that India's actions aim to protect domestic industries from unfair competition and predatory practices.
