IndiGo operations at Hyderabad faced major disruption on Monday with 77 flights affected — 38 arrivals and 39 departures — according to airport authorities. The impact of cancellations and delays continued through the day at airports in Mumbai and Delhi as well, adding to the nationwide strain on air travel.The disruptions follow operational issues within IndiGo Airlines that have led to widespread schedule changes across multiple airports. The regulator said unpredictable weather, seasonal demand, and increasing passenger numbers have added complexity to flight management.India’s aviation network is facing significant strain, with IndiGo at the centre of large-scale cancellations. As the fog season and heavy holiday travel begin, the DGCA has urged tighter coordination among pilots and airlines to prevent further disruption.The regulator noted that the coming weeks may pose added challenges. Its appeal stated, "As we now approach the fog season, the peak holiday period, and the marriage travel season, it is crucial that the industry prepares for even greater operational challenges. Passenger volumes are expected to rise sharply, and weather-related impacts may further complicate scheduling and flight safety."The DGCA asked pilots to support efforts to keep operations stable by reducing avoidable delays and improving coordination with airlines. The appeal added, "This appeal is made with deep respect for the essential role that pilots and pilot organizations play in India's aviation ecosystem. We trust in your sense of duty, professionalism, and commitment to public service during these challenging times. DGCA is committed for safety and implementation of FDTL CAR in letter and spirit. Let us collectively ensure that air travel remains safe, reliable, and minimally disrupted for the millions of passengers who depend on it. The association also cautioned that "rolling back revised FDTL CAR puts fatigue protections and passenger safety at risk".Meanwhile, the DGCA has granted IndiGo’s Accountable Manager and Chief Executive Officer a one-time 24-hour extension to respond to the Show Cause Notice issued on December 6 over the recent operational disruptions and reported non-compliances.
