India and Egypt reviewed the 'entire gamut of bilateral strategic partnership' during the 14th India-Egypt Foreign Office consultation at Cairo, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Monday.Secretary (South) Dr.Neena Malhotra co-chaired the meeting along with the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt Tamim Khallaf. "Both sides reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral strategic partnership and discussed possible cooperation to take this forward," Jaiswal said in a post on X, adding that they also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.— MEAIndia (@MEAIndia) India is now importing 1.4 per cent of its crude oil from Egypt, significantly higher than the earlier 0.3 per cent, in a move to diversify its crude sourcing.Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Egypt in 2023 to hold a meeting with his counterpart, Mostafa Madbouly in Cairo, wherein the two nations planned to push bilateral trade to $12 billion within the next five years.Back in 2023, the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to around $7 billion. Modi had mentioned that India is an important source of foreign investments to Egypt. The two countries have been increasing cooperation in the field of renewable energy, which reflects their joint commitment to protect environment.The leaders also discussed further cooperation in G-20, highlighting the issues of food and energy insecurity, climate change and the need for Global South to have a concerted voice.
