Wiaan Mulder, South Africa's stand-in captain, made an extremely selfless call by declaring the innings at 626/5, remaining unbeaten on 367 against Zimbabwe. He surpassed Hashim Amla's record for the highest individual score by a South African in Tests and set a new benchmark for the highest individual score in an away Test. However, his total was just 33 runs shy of Brian Lara's record.
