Carlsen clinches FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship 2026

Magnus Carlsen won the 2026 FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship in Germany, defeating Fabiano Caruana 2.5–1.5. A crucial comeback win in game three helped him secure the title, clinched with a draw in the final game. It is the first FIDE-recognised Freestyle world title and Carlsen’s 21st overall. Abdusattorov finished third, and the top three qualified for 2027.
