In a development reflecting the growing integration of civil society leadership into structured global peace diplomacy frameworks, the Universal Peace Federation (UPF) has conferred the title of Global Peace Ambassador on Balananthini Balasubramaniam at a formal ceremony held at Lancaster Gate, Central London.

The recognition highlights her sustained contributions to ethical leadership, intercultural dialogue, and peace advocacy, while signalling a broader shift toward execution-oriented, multi-stakeholder peacebuilding models in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment.

Founded decades ago, by Sun Myung Moon and Hak Ja Han, UPF operates in over 150 countries and holds General Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The organisation advances initiatives across interfaith cooperation, leadership development, and policy-aligned peacebuilding, positioning itself as a bridge between grassroots engagement and international governance systems.

The London ceremony brought together key members of UPF’s leadership, including Secretary General Robin Marsh, Director Margaret Ali, and incoming Director Eva Chan, alongside Patron Ian Pelham Turner and other senior figures. Participation from civic networks, including Rotary representatives, underscored the organisation’s emphasis on cross-sector collaboration as a prerequisite for sustainable peace.

UPF’s operational framework integrates diplomatic dialogue, cultural engagement, leadership training, and policy advocacy, aligned with global priorities such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach reflects an evolving consensus that peacebuilding must extend beyond dialogue into structured, measurable, and leadership-driven implementation.

As a Global Peace Ambassador, Balananthini Balasubramaniam is expected to advance initiatives that promote social cohesion, cross-cultural partnerships, and inclusive development, while representing UPF across civic, academic, and international platforms.

The conferment underscores a defining institutional message: sustainable peace is not symbolic—it is built through ethical leadership, coordinated frameworks, and active global participation.
