In a significant milestone for India’s infrastructure and economic strategy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, positioning it as a transformative hub for aviation, logistics, and export-led growth in North India.
Describing the project as a cornerstone of the “Viksit Bharat–Viksit Uttar Pradesh” vision, the Prime Minister emphasised that the airport is not merely an infrastructure asset but a strategic economic enabler, designed to integrate regional production ecosystems with global markets.
The Noida International Airport is set to function as a primary logistics gateway for North India, strengthening connectivity across key economic and cultural centres including Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Meerut, Ghaziabad, and Bulandshahr. The development is expected to accelerate investment inflows, trade expansion, and export competitiveness across the region.
A key component of the project is its advanced cargo terminal, which will begin operations with an annual handling capacity of 2.5 lakh metric tonnes, scalable to 18 lakh metric tonnes in subsequent phases. This expansion is expected to enable faster movement of agricultural produce and industrial goods, strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s position in global export markets while reducing logistics costs.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the contribution of local farmers, noting that their land will now facilitate direct access of agricultural produce to international markets, enhancing rural integration into global supply chains.
The foundation stone was also laid for a 40-acre Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility aimed at transforming India’s aviation services sector. With a large share of Indian aircraft currently serviced abroad, the facility is expected to reduce operational costs, enhance domestic capability, and generate high-skill employment.
Highlighting the rapid expansion of aviation infrastructure, the Prime Minister noted that Uttar Pradesh now ranks among the states with the highest number of airports in India. He described the project as a result of coordinated governance, stating that while it was approved in 2003, it gained momentum through focused execution in recent years.
Designed as a next-generation aviation hub, the airport is being developed to support one aircraft movement every two minutes upon full operationalisation. It is expected to significantly enhance India’s global connectivity and position North India as a key node in international aviation and logistics networks.
In a symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister invited attendees to switch on their mobile phone flashlights during the inauguration, highlighting collective participation in nation-building. He remarked that the airport represents the trust, effort, and future of the people.
The inauguration aligns with India’s broader ambition to emerge as a global hub for aviation, logistics, and manufacturing, reinforcing its role in international supply chains amid evolving global economic dynamics.
