In a major infrastructure milestone for North India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, formally launching a transformative expressway link expected to redefine connectivity between the national capital and Uttarakhand.

Addressing a massive public gathering in Dehradun, the Prime Minister described the project as a landmark advancement in Uttarakhand’s development journey, stating that the new expressway will reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, significantly improving mobility for passengers, tourists, and commercial traffic.

Recalling his earlier vision after visiting Kedarnath, PM Modi reaffirmed that “the third decade of this century belongs to Uttarakhand,” emphasizing that the young state is rapidly emerging as a model of infrastructure-led growth under the double-engine governance framework.

KEY NATIONAL IMPACT:

  • Faster interstate passenger movement
  • Major tourism boost for Uttarakhand pilgrimage circuits
  • Improved freight and logistics efficiency
  • Enhanced regional trade and economic integration

In his address, PM Modi also paid tribute to the bravery of Shaheed Jaswant Singh Rawat, highlighting Uttarakhand’s enduring contribution to India’s armed forces, and noted that nearly ₹1.25 lakh crore has been disbursed under One Rank One Pension (OROP).

Before inaugurating the corridor, the Prime Minister offered prayers at Dat Kali Temple in Dehradun. Earlier, he inspected the wildlife corridor constructed along the elevated Saharanpur section of the expressway—an environmentally sensitive engineering feature designed to preserve ecological balance alongside rapid infrastructure expansion.

A grand roadshow in Saharanpur preceded the event, where the Prime Minister received an enthusiastic welcome from large crowds.

The Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor is expected to emerge not merely as a transport upgrade, but as a strategic economic artery accelerating tourism, commerce, investment flows, and sustainable regional development across North India.
