TRADITION, ENTERPRISE & SELF-RELIANCE POWERING A NEW BHARAT
Addressing the Maheshwari Global Convention and Expo – 2026 in Jodhpur,
Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah outlined India’s decisive
economic and civilisational rise under the leadership of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi.
He stated that in the past decade, India has advanced from the world’s
11th largest economy to the 4th largest, and is firmly on course to
becoming the 3rd largest in the near future. This transformation has
been driven by strengthened manufacturing, expanded exports, digital
transactions, skill development, and technology-led growth.
Highlighting the Maheshwari community’s historic contribution, Shri Shah
noted that it exemplifies how tradition and progress can go hand in hand.
From resistance during medieval times, participation in the freedom
movement, nation-building after Independence, to present-day efforts
towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, the community has consistently contributed
to India’s strength and self-reliance.
He observed that the Maheshwari community has contributed to nation-
building both “with the sword and the scale,” and has always been a job
creator rather than a job seeker. Emphasising social harmony, he stated
that Indian communities have never divided the nation; they are symbols
of organisation, unity, and collective responsibility.
Shri Shah further emphasised that if every community resolves to uplift
its people and make them self-reliant, the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat
will be realised naturally. He underlined that Indian languages
(Swabhasha) and the spirit of Swadeshi are essential to preserving
culture and ensuring true self-reliance.
Citing the achievements of the Modi government, he noted that by boosting
manufacturing, doubling exports, promoting digital payments, and building
a four-trillion-dollar economy, India has firmly established itself as a
leading and confident nation on the global stage.
