At the convocation ceremony of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, delivered a powerful national message on the true purpose of education.
Addressing graduating students, the President observed that their paths will diverge into public service, private enterprise, research, teaching, or entrepreneurship. While each field demands different skills, she emphasised a set of timeless values that are essential in every calling:
She reminded students that education is not merely a means of livelihood,
but a means of service. Society contributes to the making of every learner,
and graduates carry a responsibility to repay this debt by uplifting those
who have been left behind in the journey of development.
This is a clarion call to India’s youth:
Build careers anchored in conscience.
Lead with empathy.
Turn learning into service.
EDUCATION • ETHICS • NATION-BUILDING
